FINGIES

‘FINGIES’ a solo exhibition, Ben Frost Gallery, Melbourne, Australia. 2019

FINGIES is the debut solo exhibition by emerging artist 2CHOEY. Originally from Thailand the artist moved to Melbourne in 2018 to begin a new chapter in his career, and has been exhibiting and painting walls locally in his playful and very unique style.
His signature characters feature hands and fingers for heads – ‘Fingy Heads’ or ‘FINGIES’ as the title of his show suggests.
Over the last 7 years 2CHOEY has been exhibiting across Asia, and famously won the Air Asia competition to design the artwork that was painted onto the outside of one of their flagship A320-200’s.
2CHOEY’s colourful pop-art inspired work has been an instant hit within the Melbourne art scene, with all of his works selling in the many group exhibitions he has been in.
Having worked for several months as a painting assistant to Ben Frost in 2018, he was invited to exhibit a new body of his work in the gallery, that will feature over 25 new paintings on canvas.

Thanks Ben for an opportunity, Frosk for shooting a video and contents, Camelcut for photos of me in a studio. Big up to my family for supporting me and all of my friends who helping me to make the show happened. Cheers!

PLANET OR PLSTIC?

For 130 years, National Geographic has documented the stories of our planet, providing audiences around the world with a window into the earth’s breathtaking beauty as well as to the threats it faces.

More than five trillion pieces of plastic are already floating in our oceans. With nine million tons more thrown in every year. Which is why National Geographic launched Planet or Plastic? — a multiyear initiative aimed at raising awareness of this challenge and reducing the amount of single-use plastic that enters in the world’s oceans.
For our 2019 calendar, we collaborated with 12 young artists from the 12 countries that suffer most from ocean plastic pollution to create 12 artworks for 12 months. Each one highlighting the environmental and health impact of plastic waste on their country’s marine ecosystems and all who rely upon them.
After all, every day matters, every single-use plastic counts and no one can save us from ourselves but ourselves.

#6 THAILAND

GENTLE GIANT OR PLASTIC?

The discovery of a pilot whale dying off southern Thailand after swallowing 80 plastic bags was another alarm for local consumers, government and tourists alike to reduce the mass consumption of single-use plastic. It also prompted the nationwide launch of ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ campaign, in collaboration with the United Nation, to curb the use of plastic bags and foam packaging – and to ban plastic waste imports in the near future.

YAK CUTE – Airplane painting

“Yak Cute” airplane painting is the winning designed from  the “ Paint the Sky with Amazing Thailand” competition. 2016

The “Yak Cute” design was selected from over 200 entries by a distinguished commission comprising TAT and Thai AirAsia representatives and acclaimed artists and designers.

Yak cute

The “Yak Cute” design was created for the category Amazing Thailand-Amazing Destination, and is now fully realised on a life-sized Airbus A320-200. The design uses the iconic images of the Giants of Bangkok’s Wat Pho and Wat Arun (Wat Chaeng) as well as other distinct architectural features of the Kingdom, presenting them in a more updated and endearing style, thus the name “Yak Cute”.

Yake Cute

“Yak-Cute” title directly translates to “Cute Giant”.  On top of showing off the country’s history and culture, the design also underlines the Thai people’s playful and friendly nature and their readiness to welcome visitors.

The design will serve as a cultural ambassador in the sky, promoting Thailand’s unique traits and culture while inviting visitors to experience all the country has to offer.
